#NaBloPoMo Day 8: HMB Repost

I write for and am the managing editor of Houston Moms Blog. Since I wrote this post just this week, I’m counting it for #NaBloPoMo.

This post is on things not to say to moms with children with special needs. It’s insane what people think are helpful phrases or advice.

“God doesn’t give you more than you can handle.” – Total pet peeve of mine. Just plain not true.

“I could never handle this. No way could I do what you do.” – This one drive me bananas. YES you could and you would if it was your kid, because it’s your kid! I am not a supermom, just a mom doing what I need to do to help my kid thrive, just as you would.

“You’re lucky your kid doesn’t talk. Mine won’t shut up!” – This exact phrase hasn’t be said to me, but a version of it, many times. I mean, I get it, as I have a 3.5 yr old typical child who never. stops. talking. BUT still, I would give anything to hear Clara’s voice.
